The Insight
Streaming platforms and social media have disrupted the music industry. While these platforms have helped to democratise the tools to break into the industry, it has also pushed musicians to increasingly adopt an ‘always on’ approach to promotion.
Particularly acute at the point when musicians want to power up their career, turn their hobby into a career, want to establish themselves.
At that particular point musicians spend an increasing amount of time, money and energy to find, grow and engage their fans across a multitude of platforms.
At the very least, it takes their focus away from the creative process of making music. But at its worst, it can lead to burnout and mental health challenges.
